Hi spec,

Thanks for the price update. Wow, it's lower than my expectation which is a bonus. Was planning to go down this weekend to check the GS300 out. Been to PML last Sat. Price for the 523i is $175k, 525i $220k & 525 Individual $240k.

I fully agree to the above statement. Buy BMW at most visit the workshop a couple of time more than the Lexus, you need to face yr wife everyday !!!! Mr. Green

If finally you cant tahan the nag and change back to BMW, you loose big time. Might as well go for the BMW.

The decision got nothing to do which car better in drive, in comfy, in value, better power, handling or whatever. You just need to avoid domestic problem. Twisted Evil

You can also look at it another way. She may get so tired of going to the workshop that she wants to change to the GS Laughing in the end u also lose big time haha

I use to own one 520 and it was a big pain even during warranty to have to send in for repairs. Although their offer of a car to use softens the blow.

Once the warranty is over, the bills can be big as the tendency is for expensive stuff to break - in my case it was steering mechanism, car seat motor/drive, some part of the bloody computerised engine management system. Good thing I like about it is the 20K between servicing. It is like once a year!

Now I am on a jap luxury sedan. Servicing is every 5K (so many saturdays wasted sending car for service). Unlucky to me - engine stalled when it was 3 months old. First time ever, the jap distri loan me a temp car to use. They say they do not provide this normally. Some major gizmo for engine control had to be changed. So, maybe luck plays a part and nothing to do with brand when it comes to breakdowns.

My wife still think fondly of the 520. Given the choice she indicated that she will go for the beemer. Just like you my heart lies with a GS300 choice.

Bottom line is both choice is just as good (but with new price list, the price could be the deciding factor?) but if price is not a factor follow your wife's choice.

If I have the money to buy two luxury sedan, I would have settled on a BMW 6-series. No considerations needed! Haha Smile

Yes, most continental cars have service intervials ranging from 15~25K. So if you work out the sums.. maintaining a continental car is less than most ppl think. ok.. I',m bias.. Laughing

I believe BMW has 25K service interval not 20K.

BMW has a racing heritage and therefore from what i know the 5 series ride is still no where near the comfort levels a e class, s class or lexus reached.

so it depends if u want more of a driver's car go for the BMW, the handling of the car is terrific no doubt about it.

but if u want something to relax in when u get stuck in a jam or going through uneven manhole filled and bumpy roads, go for the lexus or MB e class for the same price range..

i had the same headache as u a mth back but i've decided firmly on not getting a BMW but booked a MB instead.

one issue is the comfort of the ride & noise level. 2nd issue, reliability issues.
not gonna go into details here but if u've owned a bimmer or a non-biased fren owns one.

price wise, i feel the BMW is kinda overpriced n the resale value is just not there!

Thanks for the info! If it's really 25k interval, maintenance could be lower than the Lexus. I don't know the service interval of a Lexus. Will check with my frd.

There is this indicator that will change from green to amber to red (I think - but never saw it red before). Once it shows one bar amber then you get ready to send in for servicing. This is roughly 20K on the odometer.

I did ask before how come Jap cars do it every 5K and they said something about the engine design. Maybe better materials or better engineering.

Miss that feature now in my Jap car. Sitting for half a day for your car to be service is no fun. To leave and go home and come back is so much waste of time too.

I think Lexus follows the Jap 5K rule.
